Aidah Rauf documents an annual Hari Raya trip to M'sia.

I've been the 'official' Hari Raya photographer for my family since I was 17.

But this year, I came with a mission.

I was working on a multimedia piece called "Forgive me, Grandpa", documenting my cousin's journey to Johor Bahru, Malaysia, our grandparents place.

In this piece, I also had to record audio, which was something new for me. When will be the right time to press the record button? Whom do I need to record? What happens if I miss an excellent quote?

Then came the photography. I need to make sure no one was posing when I raise my camera. Would I be intruding into my family's personal space? It was a whirlwind of questions running through my mind and clearly too much for one person to handle especially when I was dressed in traditional baju kurung and heels.

-- ST PHOTO: AIDAH RAUF

Halfway through it, I knew I still need to enjoy this Hari Raya like any previous years.

I wouldn't lie, it was exhausting, but what kept me going was my uncles, aunties, cousins and not forgetting my grandpa being totally sporting. I had my fair share of laughter, good food and what I can proudly say a good set of images for the project.

Not bad for a first timer.

See Aidah's multimedia story, "Forgive me, Grandpa", here on Through the Lens.
