Learning to say "bygones"
August 11, 2008 Monday, 03:04 PM
Nicolette Teo puts her 100m breaststroke behind her. From the Olympic Village HEARTBROKEN. That's how I feel right now. My heart is bleeding now and it aches the way hearts ache after a failed relationship. My 100m breaststroke swim did not go how I planned it to and I am disheartened, devastated and disappointed. This was supposed to be my time, I’ve trained so hard, sacrificed so much, did everything right and was so so so ready to swim fast. I guess some times things just don’t go the way we want them to. I think what hurts the most is that I can easily go the time I swam in practice. I did not come all the way here to swim a practice time! I'm also upset because my equipment failed me big time. Before my race I had to change out of two race suits because the first one I struggled into ripped. The fit was just off for the second one I put on and there were huge air bubbles in the suit. I finally settled for one that wasn't the right size. I was not about to try to squeeze into a fourth just 20 minutes before I was due behind the blocks. On top of suit troubles, my cap came off in the middle of the race! I'm not sure how it happened but mid-way in the first 50m I felt my outer cap (I double-cap when I race) flop on my head. In the second lap, it came off completely. Stuff happens. However upset I am right now, I know I need to let that swim go and move on. I have the 200m breaststroke in two days and I need to focus all my energy on preparing myself to swim fast then. Focusing on what shoulda, coulda, woulda happened is a complete waste of energy. I gave myself till noon today to moan and cry about my race but now it's time to put it all in the past and not let one bad swim define the whole meet for me.
Nicolette's cap clearly giving her problems on Sunday. Tags: olympics2008, swimming, team singapore

Yes, don't let this disappointment define you. You have done your best in training and in the event--it is over, and I pray you will be able to move on.

I did think something was wrong during your race. But what's over is over, Nicolette. Dont dwell on it anymore. Moreover, it was still fairly close to your national record!
Now you have one more race to go, so just give it your best shot. Singapore's swimmers have done very well at this Olympics! Oh, and, please continue swimming after this Olympics. I shudder to think of what will happen to Singapore's breaststroke after you
I have a question though: Why is it that Tao Li, Bryan Tay and Quah Ting Wen are wearing the Speedo LZR, but I dont see you and Lynette Lim donning them?
Cheer up, girl. Stuff like that do happen. But no matter what happens, we'll still be cheering you guys on.
You can do it Nicolette! Do your best and let God do the rest! No point feeling miserable as it doesn't help in anyway. Enjoy the moment as you belong to the rare group of Singaporean that can experience the games! All the best and do you best as u would I believe! =)
